Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause. And that is why order of difficulty in miracles is meaningless. Everything looked upon with vision is healed and holy. Nothing perceived without it means anything. And where there is no meaning, there is chaos.

Damnation is your judgment on yourself, and this you will project upon the world. See it as damned, and all you see is what you did to hurt the Son of God. If you behold disaster and catastrophe, you tried to crucify him. If you see holiness and hope, you joined the Will of God to set him free. There is no choice that lies between these two decisions. And you will see the witness to the choice you made, and learn from this to recognize which one you chose. The world you see but shows you how much joy you have allowed yourself to see in you, and to accept as yours. And, if this is its meaning, then the power to give it joy must lie within you.

Projection makes perception

This principle says that what we perceive in the world is a projection of what we think or believe—in this passage, what we believe about ourselves. Therefore, what we perceive in the world is a witness to our state of mind; it serves as evidence of what we believe about ourselves.

If we see the world as a wicked place victimizing us with disaster and catastrophe, this is evidence of our damnation of ourselves. If instead we see the world as a place of holiness and hope, this is evidence of our decision to see ourselves as innocent.

Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

The world you see must be denied, for sight
of it is costing you a different kind of vision. You cannot
see both worlds
, for each of them involves a different kind of
seeing, and depends on what you cherish. (T-13.VII.2:1-2)

The idea that God is in everything is “the whole basis for vision” (1:5). It is the foundation for a “different kind of seeing” (T-13.VII.2:2). In order to see with vision I have to be willing to deny, or disregard, my current mode of seeing, which is limited to the physical and reports back to me only what my ego wants to see. If I recognize that God is in everything, yet I do not see Him with my eyes, there must be a different kind of seeing, and I will be led to desire it. I will ask for vision.

Seeing with Christ’s vision means seeing the real world. It means
seeing through the eyes of Christ. It means seeing past bodies to the
one Light and Love of God. It means overlooking the barriers to Love
and recognizing that only Love is real. Seeing with Christ’s vision
brings infinite happiness and joy. It brings healing to myself and
everyone around me. When I remember this, why wouldn’t I want to make
seeing with Christ’s vision my very highest priority?

Practice with today’s idea will help you to understand that
vulnerability or invulnerability is the result of your own thoughts.
Nothing except your thoughts can attack you. Nothing except your
thoughts can make you think you are vulnerable. And nothing except your
thoughts can prove to you this is not so.

“What would have effects through you must also have effects on you.”

Remarks on Lesson 25

Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world
is for. We do not know.
(T-31.I.12:2-3)

If we don’t know what anything is for, we can’t judge it!
We can’t evaluate whether or not it is fulfilling its purpose
because we don’t know what its purpose is.

We aren’t being asked to acquire all this knowledge we lack;
we are asked to become still and to remember how much we don’t
know (see T-31.II.6:4). The Text tells us that there is no statement
that the world is more afraid to hear than this:

I do not know the thing I am, and therefore do
not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world
or on myself.
(T-31.V.17:7)

It goes on to say that learning this is the birth of salvation.
This is where learning starts: admitting how incapable of judging we
are. All of these things we don’t know! Recognizing our ignorance
is the birth of salvation because, until we admit we don’t know,
we won’t ask for help. As long as we think we know, we block true
knowing.

Little children recognize that they do not
understand what they perceive, and so they ask what it means. Do not
make the mistake of believing that you understand what you perceive,
for its meaning is lost to you….Yet while you think you know
its meaning, you will see no need to ask it of Him.

You do not know the meaning of anything you
perceive. Not one thought you hold is wholly true. The recognition of
this is your firm beginning.
(T-11.VIII.2:2-3, 5; 3:1-3).
